PHILADELPHIA — Police in Philadelphia shot and killed the driver of a minivan who they say drove toward them when they attempted to stop the vehicle.

Police say plain clothes officers spotted a suspicious vehicle and surrounded it in the city’s Overbrook section just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say the driver began to drive off toward the officers and one of the officers opened fire.

The driver, who was not armed, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His name has not been released.
