Police: Trio lured, robbed 4 at gunpoint in York City
Police say three York City residents used Craigslist and similar websites to lure four different people into the city on Saturday and then rob them all at gunpoint.
Shane Bennet, 26, Allen Claiborne, 21, and Teonna Neely, 19, have all been arrested in connection with these crimes, according to a news release from York City Police.
Officers responded to four different robberies on Saturday that all had a similar modus operandi, police say: People responded to advertisements on Craigslist or OfferUp, a similar website, and came into York City to buy or sell electronics, but were robbed.
The robberies were all a few hours apart, taking place between about noon and 8 p.m. Saturday, according to Lt. Troy Bankert, who supervises the York City Police Department's detective bureau. He said the victims were threatened with a gun in all four robberies.
Patrol officers were able to identify the alleged robbers, track them down and arrest them, according to the release. Police say they confiscated a gun they found on Neely.
Bankert said the victims were all adults, and there were multiple victims in each robbery, but no one was hurt.
Online court records show Bennet and Claiborne both have criminal histories in York County, but early Monday afternoon there were no indications of charges filed yet in connection with these robberies for any of the three.
Police recommend any exchanges from online dealings take place in a public place, such as in front of a police station, which in York City is located at 50 W. King St. If the other party is leery of doing this, police say, that might be an indication the exchange isn't legitimate.
Bankert said detectives will investigate to see if any of the three were involved in previous unsolved robberies.
“That’s standard operating procedure,” he said. “We haven’t seen any recent pattern, as far as the luring of people here to rob them.”
