A juvenile who escaped from a rehabilitation facility in Manchester Township Sunday remains at large.

Northern York County Regional Police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area Monday night, but for the second day in a row were unable to locate the young man.

The escapee, described as a Hispanic male, age unlisted, is approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall with curly black hair. He left the Alternative Rehabilitation Community Inc.at 3299 Susquehanna Trail on Sunday afternoon and eluded two other facility residents who pursued him, officials at the facility said.

Throughout the evening Sunday, residents in the area of Greenbriar Road and Westwind Lane called 911 to report a suspicious person in their yard or behind their home, but despite their heavy concentration in the area, police were never in the right spot at the right time to locate the young man.

Neither the police nor ARC executives returned phone calls Monday regarding the escape, but an ARC supervisor confirmed Sunday night that the youth ran away from the facility through an unlocked door after being housed there under court order for five days. The facility is manned all hours of the day by counselors but is not a secure facility. Residents undergo any number of treatment programs while housed at ARC, ranging from individual and family therapy to drug and alcohol rehabilitation counseling, as well as anger management.

The juvenile is from Berks County, according to the ARC supervisor who spoke to The York Dispatch on Sunday. He is bilingual and, despite the fact he is not believed to be armed or a danger to the community, he might become violent if confronted. Any area resident who spots the young man is advised to call 911.

ARC supervisor Anthony Chase said Sunday that the juvenile is not a threat to the community and escapes are not uncommon to his facility, the most recent occurring in November 2015, he recalled.

No one was injured, and two other students chased after Sunday's escapee in an effort to bring him back.
