A York City man remains in York County Prison for allegedly shooting a man in the middle of the day Monday.

Luis Enrique Cotto-deJesus, 21, of 530 Jessop Place, is charged with five counts of recklessly endangering another person, one count each of aggravated assault, attempted simple assault and carrying a firearm without a license, according to charging documents.

York City Police say that about 3:30 p.m. Monday, Cotto-deJesus was in a verbal and physical altercation with Jonathon Rivera Rosado in the parking lot of an apartment building at 283 Park St. in the city. During the scuffle, police say Cotto-deJesus opened fire with his handgun, shooting Rosado in the ankle in front of people nearby.

After Rosado was shot, Cotto-deJesus left the area in a vehicle with the gun, according to documents.

York City Police Lt. Troy Bankert said Cotto-deJesus is the brother of a woman who lives in the apartments and Rosado is in a relationship with Cotto-deJesus' sister. He did not know what started the altercation.

Witnesses told police what Cotto-deJesus had done, and Cotto-deJesus returned to the apartments and turned himself in, police said.

Cotto-deJesus remains in prison in lieu of $300,000 bail.
