Shrewsbury man charged with having child pornography
A Shrewsbury man faces criminal charges after family members discovered what they believed were images of child pornography on his home computer and reported him to Southern Regional Police Department, according to a news release. The investigation dates back to August 2015, officials said.
Robert "Craig" Richardson, 53, whose last known address is listed as being in the first block of South Main Street, is charged with four counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of criminal use of a communication facility.
Richardson turned himself in to authorities Monday and was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Nancy Edie. He was then released on a $20,000 unsecured bond.
According to the news release, the investigation revealed the existence of more than 15,000 images of child pornography on Richardson's computer hard drives and other computer-related equipment. Family members first discovered the images while having the computer serviced.
Investigators said Richardson did not share the files with anyone else.
"It was just him. We don't see anything that he had transmitted," Detective William Schafer said.
Richardson is next due to appear in court at 1 p.m. May 2.
