Police: One killed, one hurt when car crashed into tree outside Glen Rock
A teenager was killed and another person was hurt Friday morning when a vehicle crashed into a tree in Codorus Township, according to state police.
It happened just before 9 a.m. in the 3300 block of Seven Valleys Road (Route 616), police said. That's between the intersections of Snyder and Rockville roads, northwest of Glen Rock and at the borders of Shrewsbury, Springfield and Codorus townships.
A northbound vehicle left the road for unknown reasons, at which point the driver lost control and crossed into the southbound lane, according to an email from Trooper Rob Hicks, a state police spokesman.
The vehicle went up an embankment and crashed into a tree, Hicks said.
Passenger Elise Delozier, 18, of Rohrbaugh Road in the Seven Valleys area, was killed in the crash, according to the York County Coroner's Office. She died on impact, Hicks said.
An autopsy Saturday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital revealed Delozier died from multiple blunt-force trauma, the coroner’s office said.
The male driver was taken to York Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Neither was wearing a seat belt, Hicks said.
No other vehicles were involved, he said, and the crash remains under investigation.
District responds: On Friday, Southern York County School District Superintendent Sandra Lemmon sent out an email to the parents of district students, alerting them to Delozier's death.
The teen graduated from Susquehannock High School in 2015, according to Lemmon.
"Counselors will be available on Monday in all district schools, to provide support to students and staff as needed," she wrote, noting that it's important students have the support and resources they need to deal with the grieving process.
Lemmon encouraged parents to watch for signs of grief in others — whether children or adults — including an inability to focus on tasks, distraction, anxiety, impatience, anger and changes in appetite or sleep patters.
"The first step in providing support for your children and family members is to listen," she wrote. "Our thoughts are with Elise's friends and family at this time."
Lemmon directed parents toward resources to assist them in her email.
