Michael Baskerville, 47, of Kings Mill Road in the city, drove himself to York Hospital after the 12:30 a.m. shooting, according to Lt. Troy Bankert, who supervises the city's detective bureau.

His hospital condition could not be obtained, but Bankert said the man is expected to survive.

Baskerville was driving on Pattison Street, not far from Aries Park, when someone shot his car several times, according to Bankert. One of those bullets struck Baskerville in the hip, police said.

At this point, it's believed the shooter was standing in the 700 block of Edison Street, Bankert said.

"We think that he or the car he was driving ... was targeted," the lieutenant said. "It is not random. His car was shot several times. If it's random gunshots, you don't hit something two or three times."

Shot from behind: The gunfire came from behind Baskerville, according to Bankert.

The victim told police he looked in his rearview mirror but didn't see muzzle flash, Bankert said.

Detectives are investigating and looking for tips.
