A vehicle crash around lunchtime Thursday injured two people and closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 83 between the Loganville exit (Exit 10) and the Glen Rock exit (Exit 8), according to state police.

A northbound lane also was closed for a time, police said.

By 3 p.m., traffic was moving again in both directions — albeit in one lane only for each direction — and most of the emergency vehicles that had responded had cleared the scene, according to the state Department of Transportation's 511.com traffic cameras.

The crash happened at 11:48 a.m., about a mile south of the Loganville exit, according to Trooper Rob Hicks, a state police spokesman.

A southbound tractor-trailer jackknifed for an unknown reason and struck the concrete barrier separating the northbound and southbound lanes, he said.

The tractor's cab went through the barrier and stopped, blocking at least one northbound lane, Hicks said. The truck's tractor remained in — and blocked — the southbound lanes, the trooper said.

The tractor-trailer driver escaped with minor injuries, according to Hicks.

A car was struck by debris from the crash, and that driver also suffered minor injuries, Hicks said.

According to York County 911 radio transmissions, a piece of concrete from the destroyed barrier went through the windshield of the car and hit the driver.

A PennDOT crew is working to fix the barrier, Hicks said, and the crash remains under investigation.

At one point during cleanup, a crane had to be brought in to move debris.
