Police: Woman shot in York City

A woman is in stable condition after someone shot her early Thursday morning in York City, according to police.

She has cooperated with investigators, and they have identified a male suspect in the shooting, said Lt. Troy Bankert, who oversees the department's detective bureau.

Bankert said the woman was the intended victim of the shooting; it wasn't random.

Bankert said police aren't releasing the woman's name yet, as he's not sure her relatives have been notified.

"We figured we'd give her a day, out of respect," Bankert said.

He said she was shot "at least once" in the upper torso shortly after 2 a.m. in the 100 block of South Richland Avenue; she was taken to York Hospital, where she underwent surgery after speaking with police.

After officers were dispatched for reports of a shooting, they found the wounded woman behind 109 S. Richland Ave.

Anyone with information is asked to call the York City Police Department at 846-1234 or text "yorktips" and then the tip itself to 847411. Tips remain anonymous.
