The York County Coroner's Office confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the body found in a wooded area in Manchester on Saturday is Kenneth Palmer, the 61-year-old man who was missing since December.

Palmer, of the first block of Hill Street in Manchester, was last seen walking from his home at the morning of Dec. 14, police said at the time.

His body was found in a wooded area behind a property in the 300 block of Park Street in Manchester, according to the coroner's office. The man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the coroner's office. Testing confirmed Palmer was the man found on Saturday.

The day he went missing, Palmer left a note telling his wife he was going for a walk, and wrote "goodbye," police said. This gave his wife a bad enough feeling to call police, who called in a helicopter and K-9 unit to help with a search for Palmer.

She told police at the time his handgun was missing, so he likely had it with him.
