A York City man shot in the face Tuesday night in the city escaped life-threatening injuries, York City Police Chief Wes Kahley said.

Brandon L. Martinez was near the corner of East Princess and South Pine streets about 7:55 p.m. when he suffered a gunshot wound near his mouth, according to the chief.

Martinez, 28, of West College Avenue, suffered what is believed to be a grazing wound, but it still broke his jaw, Kahley said.

He ran to a home in the 100 block of North Queen Street for help and was taken to York Hospital by ambulance, the chief said.

Because the victim suffered a broken jaw, police have not yet been able to interview him, so they don't yet know the circumstances that led up to the shooting, Kahley said.

Martinez's hospital condition could not be obtained.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call York City Police at (717) 846-1234, or anonymously text a tip to "Yorktips" at 847411.
