Police say a Lancaster man drove under the influence while there was a two-year-old boy in the car.

Gideon Onchiri GeKara, 28, of the 1500 block of Passey Lane, Lancaster, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance and endangering welfare of children, as well as summary traffic offenses, according to charging documents.

On Feb. 13, at around 4:30 a.m., State Police were traveling on I-83 in Shrewsbury Township when the trooper saw a 2012 Chevrolet Cruz travel over the white fog line by more than half the width of the vehicle multiple times, according to documents. Police say they pulled over the vehicle an observed GeKara, with bloodshot and glassy eyes.

When asked for his license, GeKara admitted he did not have a valid driver's license and did not have any other form of identification, police said. The trooper asked GeKara to to get out of the vehicle to do a field sobriety test, and upon exiting the vehicle, the trooper could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and he showed signs of impairment, according to documents.

Police say GeKara told police he drank two beers before driving. He was given a breath test, which showed the presence of alcohol, according to police.

Police say there was a two-year-old boy in the vehicle at the time. When reached, GeKara would not comment on his relation to the child.

GeKara was taken to York Hospital, where he agreed to a blood draw, which was submitted to labs for BAC analysis, documents state. When reached, GeKara declined to comment on the incident.

He was released on his own recognizance.
