Giant recalls blue cheese
Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets announced Monday the removal of select Maytag Blue Cheese purchased between Dec. 11 and Feb. 11 because of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a release.
The following products are included in the recall:
• Maytag Blue Cheese, UPC 20835990000
• Maytag Blue Cheese Wedge, 4 oz, UPC 7221072698
Those who have purchased these products should discard any unused portions and bring a receipt to Giant or Martin's for a full refund.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon disease that could be fatal, according to the release. Healthy people don't often contract listeriosis, but listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, and sometimes serious fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems.
Those looking for more information on the recall may reach Maytag Dairy Farms at 1-800-247-2458 or Giant/Martin's customer service at 1-888-814-4268. In addition, customers may go to Giant or Martin's websites.
