Yoga, good food and craft beer combine for a relaxing Sunday morning on March 13 during the Detox Retox event at Miscreation Brewing Co. in Hanover.

Yoga and beer come together during the Detox Retox event at Miscreation Brewing Company in Hanover.

The brewery, Life in Balance Yoga and Hanover Hub restaurant have collaborated to create an event that allows you to relax your body and mind in multiple ways.

“The one we did in February was a huge success,” said Mark Mathias, co-owner of Miscreation. “It gives people something to do on a Sunday that’s different. I’m blown away by how it’s gone.”

The groups have been partnering for more than a year on the Detox Retox events. Mathias said he sees a lot of regulars from his brewery coming to the classes and trying something new.

“This opens them up to trying something new in a comfortable place,” he said. “They get one-on-one attention during the yoga, and they can chat and drink a beer after with friends.”

For $25, people can enjoy an hour and 15 minutes of Gentle Flow yoga that’s good for all skill levels from beginner to true yogi, according to Misty Stillman, owner of Life in Balance Yoga. After the yoga, people get a craft brew and a vegetarian lunch supplied by Hanover Hub.

“We’re not doing handstands in this class or anything,” Stillman said.

She also has a few regulars that come to the events and have gotten into the craft beer scene from it.

“This builds a sense of community,” Stillman said. “It really brings in a diverse crowd. It’s a more casual environment, and it’s a win-win for us all.”

Both Stillman and Mathias said the maximum number of people they can fit is 35. Already, 15 spots are taken, Stillman said.

Alex Slagle, owner of Hanover Hub, said he enjoys being a part of the event because it pushes him out of his comfort zone and allows him to play with flavors. He also enjoys the camaraderie between businesses and the people participating.

"Craft beer, yoga and hand craft food are now the new thing for our generation," Slagle said. "It's finally people seeing the love we put into our craft, the love we want to spread, the drive to support locally owned businesses. I love that part. That's the best part, being able to connect with these two other businesses I consider my friends rather than competition."

The event starts at 10 a.m. March 13 at Miscreation Brewing Company, 6 Center Square in Hanover. For more information on the event, or to sign up for a spot, visit or visit the event page on Facebook.
