York County is under a winter storm warning until 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The snow began falling around 6 a.m. this morning and will continue intermittently until late this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service is predicting accumulations of 4 to 5 inches, with "the higher amounts ,,, in the higher elevations and lower amounts ... in the valleys ... especially around cities."

"Untreated roads could be snow covered and slippery," the weather service stated in a 4 a.m. update. "Some areas will see the snow melt as it falls during the day since the temperature will hover within a degree or two of freezing."

South Eastern School District and Red Lion Area School District schools are closed, according to the districts' Facebook page.

Elementary school students will not be picked up and secondary students will be returned home as quickly as safety allows, Red Lion's Facebook page states.

York County School of Technology students were dismissed at 9:45 a.m.

The following school districts will be dismissing its students early:

  • Central York School District: Secondary schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. and elementary schools at 1:30 p.m. All evening activities are canceled. 
  • Dallastown Area School District: The high school and middle school will dismiss at 12:30 p.m., the intermediate school at 1:05 p.m. and the elementary schools at 1:15 p.m. All evening activities are canceled. 
  • Dover Area School District: Secondary students will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. and all elementary students will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.  
  • Eastern York School District: The high school and middle school will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. and the elementary schools at 12:30 p.m. All evening activities are canceled
  • Hanover Public School District: The high school and middle school will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. and the elementary school at 1:15 p.m.
  • Northern York County School District: Secondary schools will dismiss at noon and elementary schools at 1 p.m. There will be no afternoon kindergarten
  • Northeastern School District: Secondary students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. and elementary students at 12:45 p.m. All evening activities are canceled.
  • South Western School District: Elementary students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m, and the middle and high School will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. There will be no afternoon kindergarten
  • Southern York County School District: The high school and Middle school will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. and elementary schools at 12:30 p.m.
  • Spring Grove Area School District: Secondary schools will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. and elementary schools will dismiss at 1:00 p.m. There will be no afternoon kindergarten, and evening activities have been canceled.
  • West Shore School District: Middle and high schools will dismiss at 11:45 a.m. and elementary schools at 12:45 p.m. Morning kindergarten students will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m., and there will be no afternoon kindergarten 
  • West York Area School District: Secondary students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m. and elementary students at 11:30 a.m.
  • York City School District: All students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m., and after school activities are cancelled
  •  York Country Day School: All students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. All after school activities are canceled, and lower and middle school after school care will not be available.
  • York Suburban School District: Secondary students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. and elementary students at 1:00 p.m. All evening activities have been canceled, and there will be no afternoon kindergarten. The Hildebrandt Learning Center will remain open.
