A man who told officers he was a Dover High School teacher was arrested for DUI Sunday afternoon according to charging documents.

Scott Matthew Goode, 38, of the 2900 block of Robin Road, is charged with driving under the influence and exceeding the speed limit, according to police.

At around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, police were conducting speed enforcement on Route 30 when the officer calculated a red Volkswagen GTI was going 84 mph in a 55 zone, documents state. The officer pulled over the vehicle as it exited the highway on West Market Street, in the area of North Zarfoss Road. Police say the emergency lights were turned out and the vehicle traveled a quarter mile before pulling over to the side of the road.

The driver of the vehicle identified himself as Goode and showed his vehicle documents and license, police said.

While the officer spoke with Goode, a slight odor of suspected alcohol was detected, documents state. Goode admitted to consuming one 16-ounce beer at Quaker Steak and Lube before being pulled over, police said. Goode's eyes were faintly bloodshot and watery, documents state.

The officer asked Goode if he graduated from high school, to which he replied: "Yes, I am a teacher at Dover Senior High School," documents state. Goode is listed as a teacher on Dover High School's website.

The officer asked Goode to recite the alphabet, which he was able to recite to "T" before quitting, admitting confusion and not being able to finish the alphabet, police said.

When Goode exited the vehicle at the officer's request, he admitted to drinking two 16-ounce beers at around 9 in the morning, documents state. Police say Goode also admitted to having alcohol in the early morning hours of the day but told police he didn't feel he was highly intoxicated.

Goode was asked to recite the alphabet once more, but he was not able to get past "T" for that either, documents state.

Goode remains free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
