One person was taken to the hospital after a Friday afternoon shooting in York City, according to York County 911.

York City Police were called to the intersection of South Pershing Avenue and West Cottage Place at 3:38 p.m. for reports of a shooting with one victim, according to 911 dispatchers.

After one person was taken to a local hospital, officers spent the next two hours focusing on the 700 block of South Beaver Street. They combed the area in front of the Planned Parenthood in that block, leaving a couple of red X's in the snow across the street from it.

The sergeant on scene, who was the only officer there allowed to speak to the media, left without giving any comment. The was no word on the victim's condition.

Richard Gallogly was working as a crossing guard at the corner of South Pershing Avenue and West Cottage Place when the shots rang out. He counted nine, he said.

And then a boy, maybe 15 or 16 years old, came running around the corner from South Beaver Street, turning left and running west on West Cottage Place, right toward the crossing guard. Gallogly said the person was holding his right side, red blood stark on his white shirt around his hand.

"I was like, 'What's wrong, dude? You get shot?'" Gallogly recounted. "He was like, 'Hell yeah I got shot.'"

Gallogly said he was going to call 911. The guy told him not to, the crossing guard said, and the victim continued running into a home on Cottage Place.

Gallogly said he called 911 nonetheless.

This is the second York City shooting in as many days; city resident Dontay Lowrie, 21, was shot to death Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Park Street and Park Place.

York City Police continue to investigate; anyone with information is encouraged to call the department at (717) 846-1234 or 755-TIPS.
