Wellspan crisis center closed for repairs
Wellspan Health's behavioral health and crisis center in York City will remain closed for the next couple of months as the organization repairs the building's roof, according to spokesman Brett Marcy.
The building, which is located at 1101 Edgar St., suite A, houses psychiatric and psychological care facilities and has walk-in services for mental-health help. All of those will be closed while the repairs are underway.
The building was closed Jan. 18 because of water damage.
Marcy said patients have all been notified, and the organization has moved its appointments to other locations. Anyone who would be seeking walk-in help should call the organization's behavioral-health line, which is (717) 851-1500, or 911 if it's an emergency, he said.
The organization expects the building, called the Edgar Square location, to be back open around the end or March of the start of April, at which point all services there will resume.
Wellspan and its previous iterations have leased the building for 25 years, Marcy said. Right now, they lease it from the Maryland-based Windsor Park Shopping Center Partnership.
He said the workers at the center had begun to suspect something was up with the building.
"They thought there might be something going on with the ceiling," he said, so Wellspan had it checked out. They found water damage had rendered the ceiling structurally unsound to the point of being dangerous, he said.
Marcy couldn't put a number on how many people use the walk-in services at the Edgar Square location, but he said it's busy, as mental-health services are much needed and the demand only continues to grow.
Wellspan's OB-GYN and human resources offices, which adjoin that building, aren't affected; they're in separate structures, so their roofs are fine, and they'll remain open as normal, Marcy said.
Wellspan Health is a medical organization with offices around the region; it runs York Hospital and includes various other hospitals and primary and specialty care centers.
