York City Mayor Kim Bracey has announced the city's usual 12-hour snow removal requirement is being extended to 24 hours because of the excessive amount of snow that has fallen, according to a release.

Residents and businesses are asked to do their best to remove snow from sidewalks as quickly as possible and to use caution while doing so. Those with elderly neighbors or neighbors with health issues are also asked to check on them and possibly help them clear snow from their sidewalks.

Residents are reminded that throwing or pushing shoveled or plowed snow into the street is forbidden and will be aggressively enforced to allow the Public Works Department to clear the streets, according to the release.
