Police: Spring Grove Subway robber shed clothes as he fled
A masked man who robbed the Subway restaurant on West Hanover Street in Spring Grove on Dec. 26 apparently shed and tossed layers of clothing as he made his escape, police said.
Southwestern Regional Police have released more information about the robbery, including photos of the clothing, shoes and knife he apparently discarded while fleeing, according to Chief Greg Bean.
"(The items) were found in two locations in backyards of homes within the vicinity of the Subway," he said. "We believe that's the clothing the suspect wore."
The items will be tested for fingerprints and traces of DNA, Bean confirmed.
About 9:20 p.m. Dec. 26, the robber sllegedly walked into the Subway and jumped over the counter while wielding a knife, police have said.
There were two young men working at the restaurant at the time, Bean said, and they escaped without injury.
"They ran out the back door, and ran for some time," he said. The clerks called 911 as they fled to safety, police said.
The robber was wearing a black Under Armour watch cap, a gray cardigan-style sweatshirt or sweater, a black sweatshirt under the gray shirt, black pants, tan work boots and a black face mask, police said. He had a black glove on his right hand and what appeared to be a "dingy white sock" on his left hand, according to police.
Anyone with information about the identity or location of the robber is urged to call Southwestern Regional Police at (717) 225-1333, or call 911.
