Police say a Yoe-area man was arrested Saturday only a short time after a he used a shotgun to rob a Springettsbury Township bank.

Derek Eugene Bowman, 32, is charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and illegal possession of a firearm, according to a criminal complaint filed by Springettsbury Township Police against him that day.

Police say Bowman walked up to a teller in the PNC Bank at 2430 E. Market St. around 10:51 a.m. and said he needed cash.

The teller pulled out a withdrawal slip and went to hand it to Bowman, but he said "no" — he wasn't looking to get his own cash, according to documents.

Bowman's intent became clearer when he opened up his jacket, took out a shotgun and pointed it at her, demanding $100, $50 and $20 bills, police allege.

The teller handed over $3,383, putting it into a bag Bowman held open, according to documents.

Bowman's previously faced charges of robbery, assault and other crimes, according to online court records. Because of previous convictions, he isn't allowed to possess a firearm, documents state.

Bowman remains in York County Prison on $41,000 bail, a total that comes from this and other sets of charges, including drug offenses and fleeing from police, according to prison records.
