York City eateries are setting the table for the sixth annual Restaurant Week, which will kick off Saturday, Feb. 20, and last until midnight the following Saturday

Twenty restaurants have signed up so far, said Meagan Feeser, one of the event's organizers, and the event is expected to attract around 30. The deadline for restaurants to sign up is Jan. 15.

"The winter is generally a very slow time for restaurants — especially after Valentine's Day," Feeser explained. "Restaurant Week was started to give them a much-needed boost."

During the week, participating York City restaurants will feature special deals and new menu items in an effort to attract both new patrons and loyal customers.

In the past, Feeser said, Restaurant Week has been a York City special event, but this year the city handed it over to the restaurant community. Feeser and Philip Given, co-owners of the York City Pretzel Co. and members of the York County Independent Restaurant Association, are spearheading the planning of the event.

Given said one perk of Restaurant Week he looks forward to each year is lower prices on higher-end dishes, like the short rib at the Roosevelt Tavern.

He also looks forward to seeing what new restaurants come up with.

This year, he said, he's excited about new Royal Square doughnut shop Glazin', 101 S. Duke St., and Otto's Kitchen and Cocktails, 19 N. George St.

As for York City Pretzel Co., he said, stuffed pretzels were popular during last year's Restaurant Week. This year the shop will partner with Pepper's Grille at Central Market to offer buffalo chicken cheesesteak and pizza stuffed pretzels, and something involving a sausage-pretzel combo is in store as well.
