Coroner: Dead man was killed by car

The York County Coroner's Office ruled Tuesday the Conewago Township man whose body was found Sunday night in York City died after he was accidentally hit by a car.

Police investigate the scene where a body was found on Jan. 3, 2016, on the 600 block of Pershing Avenue in York City.

William Seitz, 67, of the 4300 block of Susquehanna Trail North, was found in the 600 block of North Pershing Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday.

The coroner's office said it appears Seitz was a pedestrian when he was hit by an unknown vehicle, which then left the scene. An autopsy Tuesday found he died of multiple blunt-force trauma, and that the manner is accidental, according to the coroner's office.

The York City Police Department continues to investigate; Lt. Troy Bankert, who oversees the department's detective bureau, said officers had been looking into it as an assault up until the coroner's Tuesday ruling that it was a car crash. After that, the department's officers who specialize in crash reconstructions began investigating it, trying to figure out what exactly happened, because right now the details aren't clear, and the police don't have much information yet.

He said it appears the body was not there long, and that the crash happened Sunday.

"There's a lot of strange injuries to it, strange circumstances to it," he said.
