Fire destroyed a barn on Mine Bank Road in Wellsville Saturday evening, Wellsville Fire Co. Chief Larry Anderson said.

The barn, which was about 60 feet wide and 100 feet long and roughly 100 feet from a house, had been on fire for "quite some time" when emergency responders showed up on the scene, Anderson said.

The barn's owners, he said, didn't see that the structure was burning because they were on the other side of the house — their neighbors were the first to notice it. Anderson said responders were called to the scene at around 6:11 p.m. on Saturday. When he got there, at least 10 fire companies from York, Adams and Cumberland counties were already there and "working well together," he said.

The fire chief said officials haven't yet determined how the fire started, and that a few vehicles and a tractor or two were destroyed in the blaze. The barn's owners had been cleaning it up "to get ready to sell it," he said.
