York City Police are investigating the death of a man found dead in the street late Sunday afternoon.

William Seitz, 67, of York, was found in the 600 block of North Pershing Avenue, police said.

The call for a man down in the street near the intersection of Pershing and Parkway Boulevard came in at 5:47 p.m. Sunday, police said.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, and more details will be released after the examination, police said.

Officers investigated the scene, blocking off a large portion of the street, until around 8:45 p.m.

Police investigate the scene where a body was found on Jan. 3, 2016, on the 600 block of Pershing Avenue in York City.

Jose Aponte, 40, who lives in the house in front of where the body was found, was coming home from work when he heard there was a body found in front of his house. He said he initially thought it was his father, so he rushed home, causing him to blow out the radiator hose in his car.

"That's how serious the situation was," he said.

He eventually found out the man on the street was not his father, which he was thankful for, but he still found the situation sad. He said he could see the body from his living room.

"This is not something you see every day," he said.

Aponte's family has lived in the house for nine years, and he said he never saw anything like this.

"I don't think we'll be able to sleep tonight," he said.
