York County police officers recently arrested a vacationing California sheriff's deputy, alleging he'd driven more than 120 pounds of marijuana across the country to sell it in central Pennsylvania.

Christopher Mark Heath, 37, of the Yuba County Sheriff's Department, is charged along with Tyler Neil Long, 31, and Ryan Jay Falsone, 27, with one felony count each of selling drugs, conspiracy to sell drugs and possession of drugs with the intent to sell them, according to charging documents filed Tuesday.

The trio of Californians was arrested Dec. 29. They remain free on $1 million bail each, according to York County Prison records.

The department said in a release that it has initiated its own internal investigation, and it has no further comment at this time. Heath will be placed on leave pending the outcome of that investigation, according to the news release.

Heath was hired as a correctional officer in November 2003 before being promoted in January 2007 to his current position.

Police found the three men just before midnight last Monday in the 100 block of Frogtown Road in West Manheim Township, where they sold someone marijuana, according to the documents.

The trio had around 122 packages of weed, each containing a pound or more of the drug, according to police.

Police say Heath and Long admitted to bringing the marijuana from California.

They were committed to York County Prison on Tuesday after being arraigned that morning at the county's central booking unit, according to online court records. The records state they all made bail the next day. In Pennsylvania, anyone wishing to post monetary bail must come up with 5 percent of the bail amount; that means in this case, they would have needed to pony up $50,000 each.

York County's drug enforcement unit lead the investigation, according to the Yuba County Sheriff's Department.

All three men have a preliminary hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Judge James S. Miner's magisterial district judge office.
