ERIE, Pa. — A Pennsylvania man is jailed on charges that he stole a woman’s electronics and presents on Christmas Eve, then was caught by police shortly after returning to try to steal the woman’s puppy, too.

The Erie Times-News reports 21-year-old Austin Thompson stole televisions, a video system and Christmas presents meant for Sara Sauers’ children about 4 a.m. Christmas Eve.

Police say they caught Thompson when he returned about two hours later to take her puppy, only to flee when officers responded to the second call.

Police were able to recover some of the stolen items and Sauers says Erie Detective Matt Gustafson returned her television on Christmas Day, saying, “He even plugged in my cable.”

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Thompson who remained in jail Tuesday.
