Chief to address neighborhood group about fatal shooting

York City Police Chief Wes Kahley will speak about a recent shooting when he attends an upcoming meeting of the Avenues Neighborhood Association.

All residents of the Avenuesare invited to attend the meeting, which will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Lincoln Fire Hall, 800 Roosevelt Ave., association president Mary Anne Bacas said in an email.

Kahley will talk about a recent shooting in the neighborhood and respond to residents' questions, according to Bacas.

There have been at least 10 shootings, one fatal, in as many days in York City, including two last weekend.

The fatal shooting occurred in the Avenues neighborhood on Dec. 18.

DaKeem Dennison, 19, of the 400 block of Girard Avenue, and another man were shot inside a home in the 700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue when as many as four people broke in and opened fire, according to York City Police Lt. Troy Bankert.

Dennison was taken to York Hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the operating room. The other man was treated for his wounds.
