Police look for shell casings near the scene of a York City shooting Thursday night.

A man was shot near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and North Pershing Avenue in York City Thursday night, York City Police Sgt. Jon Veater said.

Responders were called to the scene at 5:50 p.m., a 911 official said.

The man was walking near that intersection when a car pulled up, Veater said —  a burgundy car police believe was occupied by two black males.

"Words were exchanged, and then gunshots," Veater said.

The victim is being treated for gunshot wounds in both hands, Veater said.

Police were searching for bullet casings at the scene of the shooting around 6:15 p.m.

Witnesses told police that four to five shots were fired, Veater said.

Anyone with information on the shooting can contact Lt. Troy Bankert at 846-1234.
