Coroner: 1 dead of natural causes after crash

The York County Coroner's Office said both a Friday night car crash and the death of the driver involved in it were caused by a medical event that preceded the crash.

One person was pronounced dead at 12:46 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital's emergency room after the crash, which occurred an hour earlier around mile marker 31 of Interstate 83, according to the York County Coroner's Office.

But the coroner's office is calling the passing a "natural death," saying it wasn't caused by the crash, but by some sort of medical event that happened before it, likely causing it. The coroner's office said the person didn't have any injuries from the single-vehicle collision that could cause death.

The person was in cardiac arrest when he or she arrived at the hospital, according to the coroner's office.

The coroner's office will release more information after they contact the person's next of kin.

State police continue to investigate the crash.
