The goal of the event is to make a coordinated effort to change the way people think about and take part in the giving season, according to a news release. People are encouraged to give in "better, smarter" ways to be more effective in improving their communities and their world, and organizers hope to create a "national moment" around Giving Tuesday that's as well-known as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Family First Health, Downtown Inc, Bell Socialization Services, Leg Up Farm and the York County Literacy Council will be there, and anytime throughout the holiday season, before or after the event, people can participate by donating to the group of their choice at

Leading up to the event, the organizations will all be participating in the #GivingTuesday #UNSelfie Campaign, encouraging social media followers to take photos and videos of their #GivingTuesday activities or take an #UNSelfie that shows which organizations they support and why, and share what they’re doing on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtags #GivingTuesdayYork and #UNSelfieYork.
