The Burgs Lane bridge over Route 30 in Hellam Township in eastern York County reopened Thursday morning after it was damaged earlier this week.

The bridge and the eastbound lanes of Route 30, were closed in the early morning hours Tuesday after a the top of a backhoe on a flatbed trailer hit the bottom of the bridge late Monday, causing significant damage, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation.

Crews had to cut away and remove a beam damaged in the collision and replaced it with a new one.

The closure of Route 30 created a traffic nightmare for motorists attempting to get to Lancaster and other points east.
