Crispus Attucks Association of York to hold reception in honor of Goodridge


The Crispus Attucks Association of York will hold a reception Wednesday in honor of William C. Goodridge, a successful York businessman born into slavery who played a part in the Underground Railroad.

Actors will portray Goodridge and other historical figures, and there will be an exhibit of photographs of Goodridge.

Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will also be provided.

Proceeds from sales of tickets to the reception will provide Crispus Attucks with funds needed to renovate the home of Goodridge, located at 123 E. Philadelphia St.

Of the 18 sites associated with the Underground Railroad by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, it is the only remaining structure owned by a former slave who was instrumental in the Underground Railroad.

The event, held at the York Railroad Station, will run 5:30-7:30 p.m. Parking will be available beside the train station.

Tickets are available for purchase at One ticket costs $60, two cost $100 and three or more purchased together are $50 each.
