A Fawn Grove gym that specializes in coaching weightlifters from all over the region will be soon be picking up its weights and moving to a more central location in Stewartstown.

McKenna's Gym, currently at 5 E. Main St., had eight athletes qualify for the most recent USA Weightlifting (USAW) National Championships and 13 for the American Open, according to gym owner Mike McKenna.

The gym, which has been in York County since 2008, trains athletes from all over the mid-Atlantic — but mostly York, Baltimore and New Jersey, said McKenna, who's a leading USAW instructor.

McKenna has leased 2,400 square feet of space at 300 Bailey Drive in Stewartstown because the location is much closer to the highway and has significantly more parking available, he said.

The size of the gym will be about the same as the current location, but the additional parking will allow for potentially more clients.

Currently, the gym offers individual programming for 37 athletes and group classes of 10 to 15 at a time, McKenna said. The gym offers more than just weightlifting training, he said, with powerlifters, strongmen, strongwomen and cross-training athletes also taking advantage of the location.
