Heritage Trust to present symposium about Gen. Jacob Devers

The York County Heritage Trust will present "A Quiet Streak of Lightning," a symposium about Gen. Jacob Devers, 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Historical Society Museum, 250 E. Market St.

The event is in observance of Veterans Day and is intended to honor all who served in World War II.

Born in York in 1887, Devers was influential in the development of the U.S. Army after World War I and left a lasting impression on the U.S. military before, during and after his World War II service.

On Friday, military historian Scott Wheeler will discuss his new book, "Jacob L. Devers: A General's Life," and sign copies of it afterward.

Admission is free, but pre-registration is required.

On Saturday, Harold W. Nelson will moderate a panel featuring World War II experts Conrad Crane, David Colley, Richard Robinson and Wheeler, who will highlight Devers' life and significant military accomplishments.

Admission is $10 for members or $15, and pre-registration is required.

There will also be an exhibit of artifacts from the Devers Collection on display.
