Got a few old personal documents lying around the house? Shred them with state Rep. Kevin Schreiber, D-York City, at a free event this weekend.

The shredding event will take place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Spring Garden Township Police Department, 340 Tri Hill Road, according to a release from Schreiber's office.

Residents can bring any unwanted documents that contain personal information, such as Social Security numbers, credit card numbers and medical records, to be shredded on site. All documents are then disposed of by a professional document disposal company, the release says.

There is a three-box per resident limit, and attendees are asked to bring only personal documents; no business documents will be accepted.

The state Attorney General's Office will also be there to provide identity theft protection and consumer protection guides.

Schreiber is asking residents consider helping neighbors in need by donating one canned good for a local food bank per box brought to shred.

For more information, contact Schreiber's office at 717-848-9595.
