Police: Newberry Twp. man sexually assaulted girl

A Newberry Township man allegedly sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in May, according to police.

Michael Patrick Bragg, 47, of 75B Church Road, is charged with one count each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, sexual assault and unlawful contact with a minor, police said.

Around 3 a.m. on May 30, the victim called her friend's mother for help when she awoke with her shorts and underwear around her knees and Bragg touching her inappropriately, according to documents.

She pushed him away, and he said he was sorry and didn't mean it, according to police.

Police say the victim tried to wake a woman who was sleeping in the house but was unable to.

The victim sent a text message to her friend's mother, who picked her up in front of the victim's house, police said.

Her friend's mother got her in contact with her grandparents, who took her to York Hospital for an examination, according to police.

When interviewed at the York County Children's Advocacy Center in June, the teen said the man sexually assaulted her while she slept and that she woke up during the assault, according to police.

Bragg is in York County Prison after being unable to post the $100,000 bail.
