A New Cumberland man tried to walk out of a Goldsboro Walmart with $539.68 worth of merchandise Saturday night, police said.

At around 8:20 p.m., an asset protection associate of Walmart on 50 Newberry Parkway reported to police that they witnessed Lentz place many items in his cart, including a $60 speaker system, and try to leave the store without paying, according to police.
Two associates observed Lentz walking past the cash registers without paying for the items, police said.
They confronted Lentz outside the grocery section of the store and found he had 81 items in his cart that he didn't pay for, police said.
