Rooted Artist Collective co-owners earn poetry award at international festival

Jessica Flynn and Dustin Nispel, who co-own The Rooted Artist Collective, 101 N. Newberry St., York City, attended the Ditet e Naimit International Albanian Poetry Festival in Tetova, Macedonia, earlier this month. They were the sole representatives from the U.S., which was among 30 participating countries.

The two took home the award for best poem for Nispel's piece "Bottom of the Blossom," which they performed together. The award, called Qiriu i Naimit, or Candle of Naim, is one of five that were given out at the festival.

"We stepped (the performance) up a notch," Nispel said on Wednesday. "We were interjecting throughout the poem and saying certain words together, harmonizing."

The couple filmed parts of their trip and plan to put together a documentary about their personal story and about the festival. It will be aired on White Rose Community Television.
