Police: Dillsburg-area crash kills motorcyclist
An Adams County motorcyclist died Sunday night after crashing on Route 15 just outside Dillsburg in Carroll Township, police said.
Russell Allen Brown, 48, of Bonners Hill Road in York Springs, was rushed to Holy Spirit Hospital in Cumberland County, where he was pronounced dead, according to Carroll Township Police.
Brown died of blunt-force head trauma, according to the Cumberland County Coroner's Office, which has ruled the death accidental.
No autopsy is planned, according to the coroner's office.
Crossed lanes: Carroll Township Police Sgt. David Smith said Brown was riding south in the 300 block of Route 15 about 7:05 p.m. when his motorcycle crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a Nissan sedan.
The Nissan was driven by Mark D. Ackley, 34, of Deerfield Avenue in Mechanicsburg, according to police. Ackley escaped injury in the crash, police said.
Smith said police are still trying to figure out why Brown crossed into the northbound lane and are hoping witnesses might help investigators answer that question.
Portions of Route 15 in the area were closed for about two hours as police investigated and emergency responders cleared the wreckage, Smith said.
Brown was not wearing a helmet, according to the coroner's office.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it is asked to call police at (717) 432-3317, or leave a message for police by calling York County 911's non-emergency number, (717) 854-5571.
