Police shooting death of York City man ruled homicide

The death of a man shot by York City Police over the weekend has been ruled a homicide, the York County Coroner's Office announced on Monday.

Dequan Williams, of York City, died as the result of gunshot wounds to the torso, an autopsy performed Allentown's Lehigh Valley Hospital found, the office said.

The 28-year-old Williams was shot and killed by two York City police officers in the 1000 block of Kelly Drive on Saturday afternoon when he didn't drop a knife after an officer ordered him to do so, according to authorities.

The officer were sent to the area for a disturbance call and Williams came out of a house holding the knife. The officers used a Taser on Williams but it didn't bring him down, and they then shot him, police have said.

Officers immediately called for an ambulance and gave Williams first aid, but he died at York Hospital.

The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, and state police continue to investigate the shooting.
