Gov. Wolf appoints Yorkers to Commission for Women

Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf appointed two York County residents to the Pennsylvania Commission for Women, his office announced on Wednesday.

County residents Patti Stirk and Jessica Brubaker were among 26 business, civic and community leaders to be sworn in during the commission's first meeting at the governor's residence in Harrisburg.

The Commission for Women, which consists of volunteer members, is responsible for advising the governor on policies and legislation that impact women; supporting economic and civic opportunities; encouraging mentoring programs for girls and young women; identifying programs and opportunities to benefit and for the advancement of women; and serving as a resource for women, according to a news release from the governor's office.

The commission also acts as an advocate for policies and legislation it feels serve the best interest of women and girls in Pennsylvania.
