York City man accused of leading police on chase
Police say a York City man led officers on a chase in his car and on foot, damaging vehicles and property in the process.
Alfredo Thompson, 26, of 300 N. West St., was charged Sunday morning two counts of prohibited acts, one count each of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, false identification to law enforcement officers, driving while operating privilege suspended or revoked, reckless driving and failure to stop at a red light, according to charging documents.
Police heard approximately six to 10 gunshots coming from the area of West Clarke Avenue at about 3 a.m. Sunday; when they arrived, Thompson, in a blue Nissan sedan, pulled out of the parking lot of Stevens House apartments and the parking lot was full of vehicles and people who were "scrambling" to the vehicles, documents stated.
Officers followed Thompson until he arrived at a red light, where he pulled up behind a car that also pulled out of the Stevens House apartments parking lot, documents said.
The man driving the car in front of Thompson shouted to him that there were police behind him, and the two cars drove through the red light, according to documents.
Police chased Thompson until he lost control of his vehicle and crashed it into a chain link fence and then crashed into a parked vehicle around 730 W. Poplar St., and the struck vehicle was pushed through a fence and into a garage, police said.
Thompson exited the vehicle and continued east and then north onto the 700 block of W. Poplar St., where he was eventually caught at the 600 block of West Locust Street by several other officers, police said.
When caught, Thompson told the police his name was James Michael Wright because he had warrants out for his arrest, police said.
Thompson's vehicle was found with two tied baggies of suspected crack cocaine, and underneath the driver's seat were shell casings, police said.
Thompson remain in York County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to authorities.
