Voters next month will have the opportunity to reshape York County government.

Five candidates — two from the GOP, two Democrats and a longtime Republican now running as an independent — are seeking the three seats on the York County Board of Commissioners.

That's the legislative body that sets the agenda (and budget, and tax rate) for the rest of us county residents.

On stage: All of them will be on the stage for a debate Tuesday evening at the York Jewish Community Center to answer questions and, hopefully, make it easier for voters to make up their minds.

The questions will come from debate co-hosts — The York Dispatch and the York County Economic Alliance — and from you.

We hope you can make it to the debate, scheduled for 7 p.m. at the JCC, 2000 Hollywood Drive in Spring Garden Township. There, attendees will be given cards on which to write questions that will be presented to the moderator for use during the event.

If you can't attend in person, though, fear not: You can still participate.

Online: The York Dispatch will be streaming the debate live at yorkdispatch.com. Just click on the banner link, which we'll add to the top of our home page Tuesday morning, to launch the video player.

Then open a new window and head to the Dispatch Facebook page (facebook.com/YorkDispatch) for a live chat during the debate.

That's your chance to weigh in on what you're seeing — which candidate is making the best points, who's playing fast and loose with facts, or what subject isn't getting the attention it deserves.

It's also another opportunity to question the candidates. Our Facebook moderator will send queries from chat participants directly to his counterpart on the JCC stage, where they'll be posed to the participants.

The debate is an hour and a half, and we can't promise every question from the room and Facebook will be asked — but we'll try.

Please join us and the candidates — Democrats Doug Hoke and Henry Nixon, Republicans Chris Reilly and Susan Byrnes, and independent Steve Chronister — for what we hope will be an informative and interactive prelude to the Nov. 3 election.
