The Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center kicks off its 2015-16 season with Hotel California's "A Salute to the Eagles," reproducing the sounds of The Eagles, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Strand, 50 N. Legendary actor Hal Holbrook brings his one-man show to York with "Mark Twain Tonight!", 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Strand. Join The Cat in the Hat, Horton and other beloved characters for "Seussical" at DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre Oct. 9-25. The Harmonic Brass of Munich return for an Abendmusik performance, 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at First Presbyterian Church of York, 225 E. Taste a wide variety of wines and beers at the York Expo Center with Yorktoberfest Beer and Wine Festival, noon-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10 and 11. The Sons of the American Legion fundraiser offers tastings of 120 Pennsylvania wines and 60 craft ales and lagers. Ruins Hall in Glen Rock presents the first ever Great Folkgrass Happenstance, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. The event will showcase local bluegrass and folk musicians as well as the Quimby Mountain Band, Caleb Stine, The Jacob Panic Trio and others. The event happens in Ruins Hall, the former Enterprise Manufacturing building on Water Street in Glen Rock, with beer and food provided by the Glen Rock Mill Inn. See the best of the local fall foliage by rail as the Ma & Pa Railroad Preservation Society offers fall foliage trains, running hourly 1-5 p.m. Sundays, Oct. 11 and 18, and 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. No need to travel far for an Oktoberfest, Main Street Hanover will bring one to the borough, 3-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. The event will feature samples of food, wine and beer at locations throughout downtown Hanover in a sip-and-stroll style along with live music throughout the area. It's shucking time again. The York Heritage Trust's 41st annual Oyster Festival is 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St. The longtime fundraiser features oyster stew, fried oysters, plain oysters, steamed shrimp, pork barbecue, mac and cheese, apple fritters and more, along with artisan craftsmen, gallery walks and live music by The Wild Hymns. Fans of "Last Comic Standing" get a chance to see the laugh-fest live as the live tour comes to the Strand, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. What's October without a little scare? York Little Theatre provides it with "Dracula: Up Close and Personal" in its Bon Ton Studio. The action-packed play offers a fresh adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic has Professor Van Helsing and his comrades try to hunt down the premier vampire of his time. The mix of Halloween and a parade brings out one of the biggest crowds of the year for downtown York as the annual York Halloween Parade makes its way down Market Street beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. The route takes floats, bands, cars and dancers from Richland Avenue to Broad Street, with a stop by the judging area in front of the York County Administrative Office, 26 E. Market St. The theme this year is "Proud Past, Strong Future," and the grand marshal is Paula Gilbert, director of children and youth services for York County Libraries. The parade is organized by Eventive, the special-events arm of the York Revolution, and is sponsored by York Traditions Bank, Shipley Energy, York College, Bricker's French Fries, Community Courier, DCS School of Driving and Doceo Office Solutions, along with CGA Law Firm, Glatfelter Insurance Group and ComForCare Home Care. Inflatables, games and activities for kids will be available at the family entertainment zone, open 1-3 p.m. on North George Street between Market and Philadelphia streets. The Pennsylvania Philharmonic will bring "The Firebird & The Violinist: Masterworks of Stravinsky & Tchaikovsky" to the Pullo Center on the campus of Penn State York at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29.
