The bridge that carries Route 372 — Holtwood Road — over the Susquehanna River has been closed after crews discovered a crack in one of its girders, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation.

The Norman Wood Bridge will remain closed indefinitely as engineers check it out and decided how to best fix the crack, the release states.

The bridge connects the southern parts of York and Lancaster counties, and was closed following an inspection on Monday, the release stated.

More than 4,300 vehicles traverse the two-lane bridge every day. There are no other crossings of the river between York and Lancaster Counties south of the Route 462 and Route 30 bridges in the Wrightsville area, so drivers should plan detours ahead of time, according to the release.
