Inmate escaped from York County Prison work-release facility

Minimum-security inmate Jessie Allen Spangler escaped Friday night from a York County Prison work-release facility, which is across Concord Road from the prison in Springettsbury Township, according to a news release.

Officials believe that Spangler, who was being kept by the prison under a contract with the state Department of Corrections, escaped by climbing a chain-link fence, the news release states.

Corrections officers reported the inmate missing at about 11:30p.m. on Friday night. They said he had been in the facility's recreational yard. They searched for him and called 911 to report his escape, the news release states.

Spangler was being kept in the work-release facility because he had violated state parole, records officer Joe Borgiel said Sunday afternoon.

The escaped inmate is 22 years old and about 5 feet 10 inches tall, Borgiel said. He was "most likely" wearing a brown two-piece prison uniform when he escaped, Borgiel said.
