Fiber and textiles museum to open in Felton
Youth Program Inc. has announced the opening of its Fiber Arts and Textiles Museum, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday in a renovated barn at Shady Pines Farm, 12637 Mount Olivet Road, Felton.
The textile room features vintage sewing machines and other old-time equipment, handwork samples and memorabilia. The walls tell the stories of the sewing factories, once so prevalent in the York area, and the history of the interlocking-stitch sewing machine.
The fiber room highlights equipment and stories of the role fiber arts have played throughout the years. Displays include weaving, spinning, felting, crocheting, knitting and other skills. Visitors can also meet and learn about the farm's sheep, alpacas and border collies.
Classes for all ages will be held at a later date. Admission is $5, free for children younger than 6.
