State police are investigating a report that someone fired a rifle at a jogger outside Felton early Monday morning.

Police said a 49-year-old man from Yakima, Wash., told troopers he was jogging along Main Street Extended in Chanceford Township about 12:15 a.m. when he got to the intersection of Trinity Road.

That's when he saw a pickup truck halfway down the hill on the east side of Trinity Road turn on its lights, and heard four shots from a rifle being fired in his direction, state police said in a news release.

The white older-model pickup truck then fled the scene, the jogger told police.

State police Sgt. Steven Wise said the investigation is in the early stages.

"At this time there's no reason to believe the public is at risk," he said.

Anyone with information about the incident can call state police at (717) 428-1011.
