Police: York City man robbed someone while running away from cops

Police say that when they caught up with a York City man who had run away from them early Saturday morning, he had in the meantime robbed someone of a purse.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Thackston Lane after someone called police and said three people on bicycles might be breaking into cars, according to documents. When the officers showed up, they saw three people run away from the area, leaving behind two BB guns, police allege.

When they caught up with one of them, the man, Travon Mac Gilliam, 23, of 200 N. Duke St., Apartment 1008, had acquired a black purse, according to charging documents. Officers talked to a man in the area who said a man wearing what Gilliam was wearing — a light blue T-shirt and blue jeans — had just run by and robbed him of his purse, according to charging documents.

Gilliam has been charged with robbery, theft and disorderly conduct, and has been cited for possession of a BB gun.

He remains in York County Prison on $50,000 bail, according to authorities.
